Halloween is one of my favorite holidays. I love getting dressed up with the kids and going trick-or-treating! I love going to pumpkin patches, and getting carving pumpkins, and decorating the house. Granted we didn't do much decorating this year, but we still had our pumpkins out and our doorway decorated. Carving pumpkins with the kids is so much fun, we put on Halloween music, lay down an old blanket, grab our tools and a big bowl for the guts and get to work!

Oliver kept trying to eat everything, he did not like it |
This year we were super excited since this would be our first year to be able to hand out candy as well. I love family themed costumes and will probably cry when my kids start telling me that they don't want to do them anymore. Maddison already has her own ideas on what she wants to be but we were still able to talk her into doing our family costume. We did however run into a few hiccups this year. We didn't start getting our costumes together early enough which was largely because things were completely insane. Ryan has been working a crazy schedule and it makes everything so much more difficult. Then add in fun drill weekends and changing work schedules because of said drill weekends, and Ryan had to work on our trunk-or-treat nights as well as on Halloween night.

Seriously! He is so cute! |
So we were missing a member to our crew and I was going out by myself with all three kids. We couldn't find Max a costume anywhere, we even tried switching his character and they didn't have anything in his size so we had to wing it... it was not the best, but it worked. To make things even better it was pouring rain, and cold! I'm not talking about casual raining, it was literally a down pour 5 minutes into our walk around the neighborhood. Fun fact, you can't get the kids to go back home once you promised to walk them around and get free candy! It is not happening boo boo.

Snapped a few picture before the down pour began... Maddison did a great job holding her umbrella, candy bucket, and Max's backpack leash. |
Luckily, we made it through the rain and cold and got back home and dried off and got into some clean warm pj's and ate our well earned, wet candy. I had to take the candy out and dump water out of the buckets.. most of the candy was pretty gross too... the suckers, nerds, tootsie rolls.. I secretly got rid of a lot of the candy after the kids went to bed.

Max was wore out and passed out on the side of the couch soon after our return |
Since our neighborhood is usually has a huge turn out but this year between rain and church events it didn't happen, there was a lot of people with leftover candy. We had a neighborhood trick-or-treat re-do. I was still wore out from the night before so I talked the kids into staying home and just handing out candy since we had one single trick-or-treater that came to our house the night before. They had sooo much fun handing out candy and listening to Halloween music.
